This all-levels drawing class will focus on the development of still life compositions in various lighting conditions. Using charcoal, kneaded eraser, and newsprint instruction will cover techniques and strategies for charcoal rendering. This includes setting up your pad and lighting a composition, to development of figure ground relationships, perspective, value shift, line, contour, and expressive mark making as visual language. In class exercises will emphasize “seeing” and range from short gestural drawings to longer analytical and detailed renderings.
